If you posted to Love Lab, would you want to be one of the featured profiles? Or is that too much exposure? Would you only want to be found when someone searches for you? They seem to find fairly interesting pictures to post, but why are they mainly women? Has anyone here ever been the featured profile? Comments. Because women don’t put pictures of their cocks in their profiles. Just a guess. I was in a featured profile once. As soon as I realized it, I immediately hid my profile. I was made a featured profile once, but it didn’t seem to help. I’ve been featured before, and it’s the reason I ended up taking my profile down. Every time I went on Slog and saw myself on the sidebar I totally balked. Way too much exposure. I have no idea how they choose which ones go up, but I think there should be an option or something when you sign up– for me it was just way too cringe-worthy. Regarding Kim @2, why the hell don’t the folks at the stranger pick a new featured profile when that happens? Tee sse (or whatever) has been bouncing around this week but you can’t see her thing. What’s the point? guess I should clarify – I was a featured profile on the Lovelab homepage. I didn’t read the Slog back then so I have no idea if it made the Slog. All I know is I want to do the girl that’s featured right now. Just about everyone I’ve clicked though on did the same thing #2 did. my picture was featured on slog. it was a mixture of embarassment and pride (capitol hill/seattle is small). i left it up, even though now its hidden. i think overall i took it as a compliment. My ex was featured a few days after he broke up with me. i was featured once, i assumed it was some sort of random algorithm or computer program that chose me, and that it just rotated through. i did the same as the above — hid immediately. Jeez, I hid my profile almost immediately upon recieving the first email from a friend that my mug was all over front page of the site, too. Having other people who are specifically looking for a date on a personals site (in theory, at least) see that you have a personals ad is a lot more comfortable than it being announced to the entire city (or at least everyone that counts) that you have a personals ad. I was featured on gay.com once, does that count? No one from Seattle contacted me. But apparently I’m big in Ohio and Mexico. it is important to be big in the right places. I was featured about 2-3 years ago, right when they switched from the last company that did it. I got 7 phone calls from friends that wanted to make fun of me. When all 7 of the people realized later that I was having a way better time than they were, i.e. getting laid, a couple of them put up profiles. I left my profile up with pride. The internet is just a tool to meet people, and there should be no shame in hooking up online. People that make fun of you are jealous, and one of the biggest turnoffs I have are people that I meet online that are embarassed by it. What will I tell my friends” they ask? I say tell them you met someone online, it’s better than saying you got drunk and blew me in an alley before you got my number. Either way works for me. The comments here explain why, every time these days you click on one of those profiles, it’s hidden. Wow, you’d think that people wouldn’t post profiles if they didn’t want them to be seen. It all makes sense now, though. or at least as much as it can. (And yes, I surf Lovelab now and then. ::places bullseye on forehead::) Disclosure: I’ve been with the same man for 20+ years, and have never run a personals ad. But if I was single and decided to run a personals ad, I would think that the added exposure would be a good thing, no? Wouldn’t that just up your chances of success? It it embarrasses you, why run a personals ad in the first place? for some reason, my ad ended up in the print edition one week. it didn’t help. I was! I was the very FIRST featured- even printed in a huge ad in the stranger maybe 5 years back. It was a hot photo, too. Didnt get me any dates, though. here’s some more hard-hitting investigative journalism for you. and a few good tips, too. Who chooses the Love Lab profiles and images displayed in the right hand column? I do, hi, my name is Audrey, Im single, in my 20s and I used to be on Lovelab before I got this job. They seem to find fairly interesting pictures to post, but why are they mainly women? I dont do this intentionally. Women are usually smiling, not in their bathroom with their shirt off and a camera phone. Also, women are just really fun to look at. When looking for shots to highlight I first I look for pictures with an absence of disqualifiers, such as: -No acts of overcompensation such as children, puppies, or flexed muscles. -Nothing too distracting, like first attempts at using Photoshop, toilet paper rolls, or a bad attempt at a model pout. -Good lighting, which means any shot taken in front of the computer which makes you appear like a Martian is out. Also, I usually look for are head shots, close-ups, creative self-portraits that display something about the person more than whether or not they have all of their teeth, or a scene that includes objects that reveal something about the persons personality and style. There is difference between a portrait and a snapshot, but I think this point is lost on a lot of people. A portrait will portray the person in a favorable light but also reveal a part of their personality. A snapshot is more like a list of measurements, a start, but makes the person feel more like a statistic than an individual.
